Me and Indiana Jones
Sep. 16th, 2003 10:19 pmFor as long as I have loved Indiana Jones, I've always wanted a job like the one Indiana Jones has. Mild Mannered teacher by day, adventurer by night. Well I think this job I have now is currently about as close as I'm going to get to it. Today I got to drive a Tugboat all the way from our office, up the river about 3 miles to a small cove to go fix a computer on a Barge at hess Oil company, where its planning on hopefully wading out the storm (if it doesn't get stuck in Annapolis tomorrow morning.) Anyway, it was so cool to be able to be in control of that big of a piece of equipment! And watching seagulls fly from under you as you steer, that's just amazing.
So once we get to the barge, there isn't a line of course, so they put a rickety wooden ladder across to the barge, that we have to climb across, holding onto a line. it was slmost like being on that bridge in temple of doom, only we had a failsafe. I swear it was so cool.
Now we just have to wait and see what the hurricane will bring. Figuring our road washes out, and we're only about 8-10 feet from the waterline of the River, and bout 4 miles from the Bay, ya know.... its gonna be pretty hairy. We're actually worried L's gonna get stuck on the Constellation, and I'm gonna get stuck in the office. We've tied up the sailboat about as tight as we can (L's going back WEdnesday to do final checks), and the office is already sending our ships to different hidey holes throughout the mid atlantic. We'll see what happens. We're all keeping a close eye on this one.
I wonder if L can bring the Bilge pump from work home so we can pump out hte basement if necessary. I'm so psyched yet scared at the same time. oooahhh.
Maybe tomorrow I can steer the WillKate into port :P
